The Charity Gala Dinner to be held on August 1 at NagaWorld Ballroom is expected to raise approximately $60,000 through dinner ticket sales and sponsorships.

In stating this, the President of the Malaysian Business Chamber, Cambodia (MBCC), Oknha Tan Khee Meng said that the response has been extremely good and to date, more than 400 seats have been sold, mostly through table sales of 10, along with corporate sponsorship.

We are extremely grateful to Senior Minister Ly Thuch, who is also the First Vice President, Cambodian Mine Action & Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), for his personal involvement along with his officials from the CMAA who have been working relentlessly to make this event a success despite their own busy schedules in ridding the country of land mines.

“Senior Minister Ly Thuch is an inspiration and his drive and motivation, along with the enthusiasm of the MBCC EXCO who have been working tirelessly, practically non stop since early July to put this event together, the first ever of such an event to be undertaken by MBCC, speaks volumes of the commitment of the CMAA in its noble task of freeing Cambodia and Cambodians from the scrouge of landmines.

“We will be handing over our contribution from the Gala Dinner minus costs to CMAA and to be witnessed by H.E. Lt General Hun Manet, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army during the dinner itself on August 1,” said Oknha Tan.

He added that MBCC has been informed by CMAA that the funds will be used to clear landmines in Kampong Speu’s Kong Pisei District.

“MBCC is profoundly honoured to have the presence of Lt. Gen Hun Manet to be the Guest of Honour and who will also deliver a key note address and Senior Minister Ly Thuch who will be presenting a paper on the situation of landmines in Cambodia. Our Ambassador, Ambassador Eldeen Husaini and his team at the Malaysian Embassy have also been very supportive,” he pointed out.

Senior Minister Ly Thuch told Khmer Times that technical experts at CMAA will identify the areas to be cleared and among the pioneer projects funded by the private sector is the event to declare Veal village in Kampong Speu’s Kong Pisei District to be landmine free on July 23.

“We have  a  long and arduous journey but with the support of private entities and business chambers such as MBCC, we are confident we will be able to attain our target of achieving a “Landmine free Cambodia 2025.

“Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s establishment of the  “Samdech Techo Project for Mine Action” to Boost Mine Clearance in Cambodia is the impetus to achieve this target and together, our target can and will be achieved,” said Ly Thuch.
