Dato Sri’ Mohamed Azmin Ali, Senior Minister in charge of International Trade and Industry told exco members of the Malaysian Business Council members and key captains industry that Malaysia will be opening its closed borders soon.

This will enable travel between Cambodia and Malaysia freely, without quarantine, with a rapid test being carried out at the airport on arrival and proof of vaccination. This also applies to tourists and travellers from all around the world.

“We will open the borders fairly soon and we are waiting for the Ministry of Health to finalise new SOP’s for travellers entering Malaysia, to facilitate entry and also reduce cumbersome quarantine requirements.

“We are aware many Malaysians have not been back to Malaysia for almost two years and those who have, had to be quarantined up to 10 days in certain cases and this cumbersome. When I arrived in Cambodia on Tuesday, there was no quarantine, a quick rapid test and once negative, I was free to get on with my official duties. However, when I get home, a face a five days quarantine requirement and I feel this is unnecessary.”

Malaysia he said, has suffered immensely from closed borders and should learn what others around the world are doing with regards to COVID-19 SOP’s, the new normal and learn how to live with the virus.

“My Ministry has been in talks with airlines to increase flight frequencies as I had to transit via Singapore before my team and I could land in Phnom Penh. This is an unsatisfactory situation which must be addressed and will be addressed soon with the reopening of the borders completely with minimal if not no zero restrictions for fully vaccinated travellers,” Azmin Ali said.
