Phnom Penh, Cambodia – July 28, 2025

In the wake of recent conflicts at the Cambodia-Thailand border, the President of the Malaysian Business Chamber in Cambodia (MBCC), Oknha Tan Khee Meng, has issued a statement expressing deep concern over the violence and affirming unwavering support for the Cambodian government and its people.

“It is with a heavy heart that we witness the unfolding distress and turmoil affecting our brothers and sisters in Cambodia at the affected areas. As someone who has called Cambodia home for over 25 years, the pain and suffering caused by this sudden escalation are profound,” said Oknha Tan Khee Meng. He emphasized that the MBCC stands in solidarity with the Cambodian government in its quest for peace and stability.

The MBCC pledges to play a crucial role as part of the private sector by ensuring that all pertinent and accurate information is promptly shared with its members and the broader Malaysian community in Cambodia. This commitment extends to maintaining robust communication lines with the Malaysian Embassy, providing essential support and assistance to all Malaysian business entities, their families, and local partners who are residing and conducting businesses in Cambodia.

Oknha Tan also highlighted the importance of continuing to provide reliable information to international business partners, assuring them that operations in Cambodia remain secure and that the country is safe for travel and business activities as usual.

In his statement, Oknha Tan lauds the efforts of the Malaysian government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in its role as ASEAN Chair to foster dialogue and mediation between the involved nations. “We are hopeful for the outcomes of the special meeting facilitated by our Malaysian Prime Minister in Kuala Lumpur on 28 July 2025 of which the Prime Minister of Cambodia and Acting Prime Minister of Thailand will meet for immediate cease fire negotiations. Our prayers are for an immediate cease-fire and a return to peace, which the people of Cambodia so richly deserve,” he remarked.

“Cambodia and its people cherish peace, and our hearts are with them during this challenging time. The MBCC and Malaysian business community in Cambodia has been a part of this vibrant country and community for over 35 years, and our commitment to support Cambodia, its government, and its people remains unshaken,” concluded Oknha Tan.

The Malaysian Business Chamber in Cambodia calls upon all parties involved to seek peaceful resolutions and supports international efforts to restore harmony and safety to the region.
