Malaysian Business Chamber in Cambodia (MBCC) hosted members, diplomats, and business leaders at the Grand Ballroom of NagaWorld1 to celebrate the Year of the Horse. The event highlighted economic renewal, unity, and regulatory reform. MBCC President Okhna Tan Khee Meng, Malaysia’s Ambassador to Cambodia Shaharuddin Onn, company representatives, and members of the Malaysian business community were present at the event.
The event began at 6pm with a networking cocktail session, allowing guests to reconnect and establish new partnerships. The popular Yee Sang, or “Lo Hei” prosperity toss, a symbolic act for luck, health, and prosperity in the coming year, was a highlight of the celebration. The ballroom featured bright red decorations, symbolising prosperity and success for the year ahead. Guests enjoyed performances, lucky draws, and a karaoke contest, creating a lively, engaging atmosphere that helped everyone relax as the evening progressed.
One of the highlights of the evening was the traditional lion dance, which received applause from the audience. The beat of the ceremonial drums filled the hall, infusing the celebration with energy and cultural significance.
Following the performances, guests enjoyed dinner and continued networking with professionals from various industries.
Oknha Tan stated that the event served not only as a cultural celebration but also as a valuable opportunity to strengthen business ties between Malaysia and Cambodia.
“Your presence tonight proves that Malaysians in Cambodia are not giving up — we are staying, we are fighting, and we believe in Cambodia’s future,” he said.
He described 2026 as a rare double fire horse year, symbolising energy and renewal. He called it a reset year, encouraging attendees to leave behind old habits and move forward with speed and confidence.
Malaysia’s Ambassador to Cambodia, Shaharuddin Onn, praised Malaysians living and working in Cambodia for their resilience during uncertain times in the region. “We look forward to working closely with the Malaysian community here to promote tourism, healthcare travel, education and trade under Visit Malaysia Year,” he stated.
The Year of the Fire Horse began on February 17, 2026, and will end on February 5, 2027. This rare sign appears every 60 years and is associated with high energy, speed, independence, and significant changes in career and relationships. The horse also represents bravery and hard work.
Attendees anticipated the opportunity to win, with many receiving prizes such as vouchers and electronic gadgets. The highlight of the lucky draw was the grand prize: a mobile phone valued at $1,999.
The event kept guests engaged all night, with many staying until the karaoke contest winner was announced, followed by the final lucky draw and the announcement of the grand prize winner.
MBCC organises these annual events to celebrate community festivals such as Chinese New Year, Deepavali, and other significant occasions.
