The Malaysia Chinese Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) yesterday inked three strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to solidify the Malaysia-Cambodia business relations.
The MoUs were signed during a distinguished networking dinner held at the Hyatt Regency in Phnom Penh, attended by prominent figures from both nations’ business sectors.
The gala dinner was presided over by Shaharuddin Onn, Ambassador of Malaysia to Cambodia, and Neak Oknha Kith Meng, President of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC) and Chairman of Asean-BAC Cambodia.
The MCCC delegation, which is on a business expedition tour to Phnom Penh, was led by Chairman Dato’ Tony Looi, along with President Oknha Tan Khee Meng of the Malaysian Business Chamber in Cambodia (MBCC), and other distinguished board members took part in both the gala dinner and the strategic signing of MoUs.
The first among the MoUs signed yesterday were those between the MCCC and CCC, aiming to expand inter-chamber collaboration, facilitate knowledge exchange, and support joint initiatives to boost trade and investment flows between the two countries.
The second MoU was inked between MCCC and MBCC to strengthen institutional cooperation, foster bilateral trade and investment, and create more structured platforms for business engagement between Malaysia and Cambodia.
The final MoU between MCCC and Asean Business Association was aimed at establishing a framework for enhanced inter-chambers networking and collaboration, furthering the integration of business sectors across the region.
Speaking on the importance of Malaysia-Cambodia business relations, Ambassador Shaharuddin Onn said, “Tonight marks a significant step in fortifying the economic bridge between Malaysia and Cambodia. These MoUs are not just documents but are a testament to our commitment to creating an environment that nurtures long-term economic partnerships and shared prosperity.”
Expressing his optimism, Neak Oknha Kith Meng said, “The collaborations we’ve formalised today are crucial for the continuous growth and mutual benefit of our communities. They pave the way for a future where our business sectors are more interconnected than ever. We are setting a standard for ASEAN nations on how synergistic efforts can substantially elevate economic exchanges.”
Describing the MoUs as a collective aspiration to bolster cooperation of both countries, Oknha Tan Khee Meng, President of MBCC, said, “This dinner transcended a mere gathering; it was a step toward cementing lasting business relationships that will thrive and benefit both our countries. The MoUs mirror our collective aspiration to bolster cooperation, explore new markets, and offer tangible support to our investors. MBCC is committed to nurturing these ties, facilitating opportunities, and overcoming obstacles to create a robust conduit for trade and investment between Malaysia and Cambodia.”
Dato’ Tony Looi, Chairman of MCCC, said, “We are deeply honoured by the warm reception and the collaborative spirit shown here tonight. The signing of these MoUs underscores the critical role of the Malaysian and Cambodian business community in fostering regional economic growth and innovation. We are committed to leveraging these new partnerships to enhance the prosperity and well-being of both our nations.”
These strategic MoUs signal a new era of enhanced economic relations between Malaysia and Cambodia, fostering a dynamic environment for future joint ventures and collaborative success.
